If you genuinely want to become a professional screenwriter read ALL of Martell’s blue books. Each book contains new tools, concepts, and gold nuggets of wisdom that lifts the veil of vague creative confusion and makes everything clearer. I’ve read a bunch of other classic how-to screenwriting books and none are as easy to understand and entertaining as these gems! Yes, there are typos (get over it) Yes, he repeats movie examples sometimes (get over it) and yes, if you start reading more of his books you might be getting some of the same information, BUT the new concepts and tools you glean from mining each book is absolutely worth the $5 a book. It’s way cheaper than going to any class or seminar and infinitely more helpful. I wish I’d read these books ten years ago, and you’ll wish you had too.
